Wiki Loves Monuments,  the photograph competition organized by Wikimedia, has been launched!  The contest, which is on for this September, aims to produce a good amount of freely licensed pictures of European monuments which can then be re-used not only in Wikipedia but everywhere by everyone.

Rules

Every submission should be:

  • Self taken and self uploaded
  • Uploaded in September 2011
  • Freely licensed
  • Contain an identified monument
  • Nominated through a national contest
  • The participant should have an activated e-mail address on the upload platform

Stages:

  • National competitions in each of the 15 participating countries, best photos receive prizes
  • 10 best pictures from each country will be judged by the European jury
  • 12 best pictures will receive prizes and glory

Europeana is a partner in the contest and sponsors a prize in two categories. On top of sponsoring a prize in the main competition, we also shift our focus to Art Nouveau structures in Europe. While in the main contest the pictures go through national scrutiny first before entering the “final” on the European level, any picture is eligible to win the Art Nouveau prize.

Prizes

Prize for one of the 12 best photo winners:

  • The winning photo on aluminium (large-scale print)
  • Aiptek P8 3D digital photo frame

Prize for the best Art Noveau entry

  • The winning photo on aluminium (large-scale print)
  • Luxurious photo book on Art Nouveau

Don’t forget that a special video prize is also awarded!

Best of luck to all contestants! May the best photos win!
